I am a troop leader in Carlsbad, New Mexico.  We are interested in doing a booth on Canada for World Thinking Day February.
Our troop wanted to ask if any girls in a Unit there could send postcards or any info we could use to learn about Girl Guiding in Canada.
Thank you so much.

My name is Donna Wilson and I am a girl Scout leader from Syracuse, New York USA.  We have two troops, girls age are 9-12.  The girls are interested in learning about
Girl Guiding in Canada.  We were hoping to possibly find girls to be pen pals with so that we could compare and contrast Girl Scouting in our two countries.

January 2012 - UN Declares 'International Day of the Girl Child'

On December 19th the United National General Assembly declared October 11 as the International Day of the Girl Child, an annual day to bring world focus to the unique challenges that girls face in their everyday lives.

In 2009, Plan Canada's Because I Am a Girl initiative launched a campaign to secure a day to focus specifically on girls issues.  Girl Guides of Canada was pleased to support Plan Canada's call on the Canadian government to declare the National Day of the Girl.  Units across the nation signed the e-petition as part of GGC's "Empowering Girls" National Service Project.  Since 2009, the campaign continued to gather momentum as it reached several milestones to make the UN day a reality.
January 2012 - Canada's International Development Week

February 7 - 13 is Canada's International Development week.  This is a great opportunity to bring greater global awareness of developing countries to your Unit.  Perhaps you could watch a movie about a developing country, look at photos or invite a guest speaker.  See http://www.acdi-cida.gc.ca/ for more information and suggestions of ideas.
