Committees
   Commissioners

The role of a commissioner is both very rewarding and somewhat challenging. The opportunities for personal growth are many.

A commissioner’s focus is on working with the adults in Guiding. You will work together with your councils and unit leaders providing leadership and support. You will be a role model for other Guiding members. Commissioners promote good relations both in Guiding and within the community.

The role of a commissioner can be divided into two main parts:

Member & Volunteer Support
  • support leaders and other members of your council team
  • recognition
  • response to correspondence phone calls and email
  • communications with community and families
  • conflict resolution
  • screening
  • council Code of Conduct and Confidentiality Guidelines
  • evaluation
  • promote fun & friendship
  • administration
Administration
  • hold regular council meetings
  • representation & authorization of your council to the next level
  • meet financial standards
  • keep council & leader records up to date through IMIS
  • meet deadlines e.g. cookie orders, monies
  • delegation & follow through

The National Membership Service has an orientation package called So Now You are a District Commissioner - available on The National website.
