The role of a commissioner
is both very rewarding and somewhat challenging. The opportunities for personal
growth are many.
A commissioner’s focus is on
working with the adults in Guiding. You will work together with your councils and
unit leaders providing leadership and support. You will be a role model for other
Guiding members. Commissioners promote good relations both in Guiding and within
the community.
The role of a commissioner can be divided into two main parts:
Member & Volunteer Support
- support leaders and other members of your council team
- recognition
- response to correspondence phone calls and email
- communications with community and families
- conflict resolution
- screening
- council Code of Conduct and Confidentiality Guidelines
- evaluation
- promote fun & friendship
- administration
Administration
- hold regular council meetings
- representation & authorization of your council to the next level
- meet financial standards
- keep council & leader records up to date through IMIS
- meet deadlines e.g. cookie orders, monies
- delegation & follow through

Manitoba Council provides an
information section on the role of a Commissioner within Manitoba Girl Guides.
They also hold regular Commissioner information days to provide support to all Commissioners.
