This is the first branch in Girl Guides. It is a two-year
program for young girls who are 5 to 7 years of age.
The object of the program is to introduce young girls to Guiding in a fun,
non-competitive environment.
A Sparks uniform consists mainly of a bright pink t-shirt or sweatshirt with the
Spark promise 'I promise to share and be a friend'
on it in white print and a pink Spark tabard or badge sash, along with her own pants
or shorts. Optional uniform items include pink shorts, sweat pants, and camp hat.
All of these are available at your local Guide Store or check out the Guides Canada
annual catalogue.
The Spark program is organized into nine-program areas, called keepers, each of
which has a badge associated with it. Being a Spark, Being Me, Going Camping, The
World around me, Being Healthy, In My Community, Exploring and Experimenting, Going
Outside, and Brownies and Beyond. Each of these areas has a number of goals that
are met through crafts, games, songs and service projects that are worked both indoors
and out.
Sparks have a chance of meeting and doing fun activities with girls their own age
in their unit and with older girls through bridging with other branches such as
Brownies, Guides and Pathfinders.
